Colin put himself in timeout

He begged me to put him in Justin's exersaucer. I told him "no," repeatedly. He started whining and crying to be put in the toy. Then on his own, Colin walked himself over to the timeout mat, sat down and kept whining. I didn't say anything.. and a minute later, he stopped whining, stood up and said, "Mama, I'm ready to listen." I told him "good, now you can play with another toy." He ran off and played with something else! I swear, true story! =)

Boys rule...

...the neighborhood! We met two other families on our block that have boys the same age as Colin (and one the same as Justin.) Great to make some friends near where we live -- just a walk down the street to find a playdate. =)

Boys (Colin, Hao-ie & Evan) making cupcakes...
Colin's face says it all. Evan started using two spoons, and Colin was not happy.
I think he thought far enough ahead to know that if he started whining he might not get cupcakes. So he didn't say anything, and they just kept mixing. It was hilarious.
Enjoying their hard work...
We actually watched Evan for an afternoon while his parents were at a church dinner. The boys were great the whole night...shared toys, laughed, screamed, danced and more. Looking forward to more fun times!
Here's Jack having more fun that Justin. Jack realized that the suction cup toy can stick to Justin's back. Justin was a great sport.
We also had good Leela/Colin time this week! We met up at a bookstore for music time with Dave and to play. After music was done, Colin took the reading stool and started to read us a story for story time! haha. Role playing is HUGE right now -- and he's constantly giving us roles to play in his little world. Very fun. =)
Justin is rolling all over the house, and within 5 minutes time he usually finds himself under the coffee table, bench or ottoman.

Lastly, here's a shot of our very first "two-kid" bath. =)
Love to all!

Week Updates & Baby news

We had an amazing week -- full of friends and good family fun.

Aarti, Aarvindh & Leela are back from a month long vacation in India! Leela asked to come play at our house for her birthday, so we all celebrated her birthday earlier this week. So great to have our friends back in town. Happy Birthday, Leela!
Colin teaches us yoga moves. Here is his 3-legged dog....
Our neighborhood shopping area has a weekly concert on the weekends. We have become big fans and this week Colin scored a candy necklace from the mosh pit.

Happy Father's Day! We combined celebrations and also celebrated our most recent baby news--we're getting ready to welcome a new baby niece in August. Congrats, Matt & Elena!

Grandma worked her magic and put Justin to sleep.
Matt convinced the kids to rub his feet. Gross.
And finally, Colin had his first kiss this week. Samena grabbed him by his shoulders and pulled him in for a kiss, and the teachers had to pull her off of him. Later the class was reviewing body parts, and he told them that "mouths are for kissing." I'm so not ready for this.

Brotherly Love

  • Now that Justin is moving more, Colin has been trying to play with him more. We caught him trying to ride Justin like a horse. "Puh-lease! I want to ride brother horsie."
  • Now that Justin can roll over, I asked Colin what we should teach him next. He proceeded to do a yoga move he learned at school. (the tree = one foot on top of the other while stretching your arms above your head) I suggested that we try clapping our hands first.
  • Yes, Colin still uses a binkie at (and only at) bedtime. When we're in bed reading books together, Justin loves to pull Colin's binkie out. I think it's hilarious!
  • We caught Colin crawling all over the house, so we asked him what he was doing. "I'm showing Justin how to crawl."
  • Sometimes I blow in Justin's face to make him laugh. Colin loves to imitate me, so Justin ended up with bits of Colin's food all over his face.
When life gets tough, my mom tells me to focus on and enjoy all of the little things in life. Here are a few for today! =)

Justin (4.5mo) milestones & more updates...

Since Justin has stopped sleeping, other moms have told me that he might be getting ready for a new milestone. Well, I didn't think about it much, but in the last two weeks, Justin has...
  • Rolled over back to tummy. (mostly in his sleep b/c he loves sleeping on his tummy)
  • Started creeping. It's not crawling, but he is definitely moving all around. His favorite is to creep up to Colin's train tracks and knock the trains off the tracks. Colin calls him "justin monster."
  • Holding his own bottle. He can't quite do a whole bottle feeding yet, but he's getting there!
In other news...
Now that the sun is out, we have had the chance to meet some neighbors. Last week, Christy and DeeDee made us some Amish Friendship Bread. It was delicious, and it's now our turn to pass it on. I'm so looking forward to making it!
Mel & Drew came over for dinner, and Mel's patented "swing and bounce" put Justin to sleep. And Drew & Colin played soccer and trains until Colin fell asleep!
And lastly, Colin & Justin playing together. We put Justin in Colin's shoes...
And Colin loves to put/throw toys in Justin's crib. "Mom, I'm sharing."
Crossing our fingers for more sleep this week!

Family updates...

Colin: I put Colin to bed tonight and asked him, "What was your favorite part of the day?" Colin replied, "clapping." Simple life pleasures. He spent most of the day trying to make Justin laugh by singing, dancing, clapping and making silly faces. Life is good. =)

Justin: He's no longer sleeping through the night. Enough said. He also found his feet!

Jamie & Jack: EXHAUSTED.

Weekend visitors

We enjoyed a relaxing weekend with beautiful weather and fun visitors!

Time with Aunt Natalie & cousins...
Auntie Lin-Shao from SF came to visit us for the long weekend. Within the first 24 hours Justin spit up and pooed on her. She's such a trooper. I also managed to sneak away with her for some girlfriend time -- pedicures and movies! We love you!!!Zoo trip highlight: Colin feeding fish to the seals. He loved it!

Colin also managed to fit in a birthday party for Samena this weekend. She and Colin get along quite well...Samena told her mom that she would marry Colin one day! It might have something to do with Colin calling her "Princess Samena" all of the time.

Some of Lin's pics: Colin loves Auntie Lin and her camera...
Justin and his crazy hair...
Yay for a short work week! About two weeks ago, Justin decided to add another feeding in the middle of the night. Needless to say, Jack & I are a bit more exhausted and are eagerly waiting for his schedule to change again --hopefully for the better (in terms of our sleep.)
