Bachan and Jichan arrived on December 19th. Our first big event was a Cleveland Monsters hockey game. Jamie got the tickets from her work. The seats were great - right behind the goal. Thanks, Hon. We left after the 2nd period. The Monsters were down by two goals. They ended up winning.
Jamie and the boys went skiing one day at Alpine Valley. The boys are getting good.
Colin has been playing the violin for a couple of months now at school. They had their first recital the day before winter break. We were very impressed. You wouldn't think they've only been playing for a few months.
Justin building a snow fort.
Justin had a wrestling tournament over the break so Bachan and Jichan got to see him wrestle for the first time.
He won all three of his matches and got first place. Good job, Justin.
We made our traditional Christmas morning breakfast: eggs benedict.
We hosted Christmas dinner at our house. It was us, Bachan, Jichan, Grandma, and our friends the Hardis'.
Santa Clause was very good to both boys. Justin got a magic set. He put on a small show for us on Christmas day.
The day after Christmas we drove to Chicago for a three night stay. This is the Hancock Building.
Justin and I went to the top of it.
Here's the view. We even paid the extra $7 to tilt out so you are looking straight down at the street.
We went to this restaurant one night while we were there. We ended up at this place because Jamie didn't make any reservations and it was so cold outside we couldn't walk any more.
It ended up being great. I had the sea bass with mashed cauliflower.
There were a lot of great shops in Chicago. The boys loved the Lego Store of course.
The shopping and eating were great but the highlight was the museums - which I have no pictures of. But if you're ever in Chicago, we highly recommend the Field Museum and the Science and Technology Museum.
The day after we got back we celebrated Jamie's birthday at Tazo. Happy Birthday, Hon.
We all went to the Cleveland Science Museum on New Year's Day. We got a membership just so we could get into the Chicago museums for free. We ended up staying for several hours. There were lots of interactive displays, a space capsule, a dome theater where we watched two short films, and a half-way decent cafeteria. Despite all of that, this is the only picture we have from that day. They're duct tape shoes - if you were wondering.
Bachan and Jichan cooked us dinner on their last night here. Teriyaki steak, rice and veggies. It was good to have a home cooked meal.
After a two week stay we said good-bye to Bachan and Jichan.
See you soon.
